Blisters

That is what the 'oh no' refers to. Almost 2 weeks in, and I have my first blister. Fortunately I stopped during my walk yesterday and put a compeed on, so no major drama. My 1000 mile socks have been great until now, although I have had to stitch the toes a couple of times. I will see how they do over the next couple of days and possibly  buy some back ups in Leon.

Yesterday,'s walk was rather tedious, largely along a fast road. However, the weather has improved, so lots of lovely sunshine makes everything look more beautiful.

I spent last night with the Filipena nuns of Belen. They have a huge modern hostal in Carion de los Condes with 92 single rooms, no idea why . A room with shower was €22, bliss. The nuns were so kind. They held my hand as they took me to my room and continually used my name. A lovely stay.

Today, due to accommodation difficulties I had to walk 40 km. It would not have been my choice given the blister and an iffy right knee. However, it has been a beautiful day, very warm this afternoon, and the walking has been better than yesterday. Still difficult to post anything other than endless pictures of endless horizons. Towards the end of the walk I came across a beautiful little church, so hopefully I can post that.

The reason Pellegrinos get nervous of the Mesita, is the sheer emptiness of it. As said, accommodation is very difficult to come by, and the walking distances between villages can be huge. This morning it was a flat straight track for 20 km from Carrion to the first village. There are one or two more of those hikes to come. Fortunately, I think the accommodation issue imroves from Leon. I am now booked until Sunday eve.

The blister held up, and the right knee seems to have righted itself, so I am sitting in comfort in a little hostal / hotel in Sahagun. Back to the bunks tomorrow. In the meantime I will go and look at the huge number of churches in the town and get something to eat. Last night was pure carbs, fries and  pizza, but they were very necessary
